Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and handed Everton their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the tally five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of pitch

Following a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had scored just one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to add to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs box.
